What Adjusters Actually Weigh
Works in your favor
- A newer roof. Under 10 years old is hard to dismiss as wear-and-tear.
- A severe storm. 2"+ hail or 70+ mph winds on the record for your date.
- Filing fast. Within 6 months of the storm keeps the timeline clean.
- Neighbors filing too. High claim volume in your ZIP shows the damage was widespread, not isolated.
- Clear photos. Dated before/after documentation an adjuster can verify.
- Damage that matches the storm. Hail dents and wind creases, not uniform aging.
Works against you
- An older roof. At 15+ years, damage versus aging gets hard to prove.
- A minor storm. Under 1" hail or under 50 mph winds rarely clears the bar.
- Waiting years. Filing 2-3 years after the storm makes adjusters question the timing.
- No neighbors filed. Few claims nearby suggests an isolated issue, not storm damage.
- Ambiguous damage. If it could be aging or storm, the insurer picks aging.
- No records. No before photos and thin documentation leave the claim unanchored.
A low score is not a dead end. The predictor shows which factors drag your odds, and some, like documentation, you can fix before filing. The claim assistant builds that documentation.
