Storm Just Hit? Get It Documented.

Hail and wind damage in the Indianapolis metro isn’t always visible from the ground, and the out-of-town door-knockers show up before the puddles dry, then leave the race early. Get a free, photographed inspection from a local crew that finishes, then decide.

After the Storm

What to Do in the First 48 Hours

No panic, no ladder: four steps that protect both your roof and your claim.

01

Check from the ground

Dented gutters or downspouts, shingle pieces in the yard, granules piling at downspout exits. Don't get on the roof. Hail-bruised shingles are slick and brittle.

02

Photograph what you see

Phone photos of anything visible (yard debris, dented metal, broken screens), with the date. It corroborates the storm event for your claim.

03

Get a documented inspection

We walk the roof, photograph every impact and crease, and write up the scope. You'll know if it's cosmetic, repairable, or a total loss.

04

Decide with real information

If there's claim-worthy damage, you call your insurer with our documentation in hand. If there isn't, you've lost nothing and gained a dated baseline.

What Hail and Wind Damage Looks Like

From the ground you can spot some of it. The rest, the bruises that turn into leaks two winters from now, takes someone on the roof.

Roof slope with multiple shingle tabs torn off by wind, exposing dark underlayment
Wind damage we documented after the June 11, 2026 storms. Every dark patch is exposed underlayment.
  • Dented gutters, downspouts, or flashing. Soft metal shows hail first. If the metal took hits, the shingles did too.
  • Granules collecting at downspouts. Hail knocks the protective granule layer loose; heavy shedding after a storm is a red flag.
  • Dark spots or bruises on shingles. Impact points expose the dark asphalt under the granules, often only visible up close, on the roof.
  • Creased, lifted, or missing shingles. Wind damage: creased tabs fail early even when they lie back down afterward.
  • Broken or cracked vents, skylights, or window screens. Collateral damage that helps date and prove the storm event on a claim.
  • Nothing visible at all. The most common case. Most hail damage can't be seen from the ground. That's exactly what the free inspection is for.

How We Help With Your Claim, and Where We Stop

We’re roofers, not adjusters, and under Indiana law that line matters. Here’s exactly what you get from us on an insurance job, and the two things no legitimate contractor will ever offer you.

Indiana’s home improvement law (IC 24-5-11) makes it illegal for a contractor to pay or rebate your deductible, advertise a “free roof,” or act as your claim negotiator. Treat any of those offers as the warning it is.

  • Photo documentation of every impact. Roof-level photos, dated and organized, formatted to hand directly to your adjuster.
  • A written, itemized scope. What's damaged, what it takes to fix it, at our real fixed prices: the apples-to-apples document a claim needs.
  • A walkthrough with your adjuster. We'll meet them on site to point out what we found. You file the claim; we make sure nothing gets missed.
  • An honest 'no' when it's not claim-worthy. Cosmetic damage that doesn't shorten roof life isn't worth a claim on your record, and we'll say so.
  • Never: deductible games. No waiving, rebating, or 'we'll take care of it.' That's insurance fraud in Indiana, full stop.

Beyond the Metro

Extended Storm Response Across Central Indiana

Our day-to-day service area is the Indianapolis metro, but after major hail or tornado events we deploy crews farther out, to communities like Kokomo, Lafayette, Columbus, Bloomington, New Castle, and Marion. If a verified storm has hit your area and you want a documented inspection from an established Indianapolis contractor instead of a traveling storm outfit, call us. If we can responsibly take the work, we will, and if we can’t, we’ll tell you that too.

FAQ

Storm Damage Questions

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Get the roof inspected and documented first. If there's no real damage, you avoid an unnecessary claim on your record; if there is, you call your insurer with photos and a written scope in hand instead of a guess. We don't file or negotiate the claim for you (that's your call to make), but our documentation is built to hand straight to an adjuster.
Can you waive or cover my insurance deductible?
No, and no honest Indiana contractor can. Indiana law (IC 24-5-11) makes it illegal for a contractor to pay, rebate, or promise to offset any part of your deductible, and treats it as a deceptive act. Anyone offering a “free roof” by eating the deductible is breaking the law before the job even starts. Your deductible is yours; everything else is what insurance is for.
How long do I have to file a hail damage claim in Indiana?
Most Indiana homeowner policies require claims within a set period after the date of loss, commonly one to two years, but it varies by policy. Hail damage isn't always visible from the ground, so if your area took a hit, get an inspection on the calendar even if nothing looks wrong; documentation dated near the storm makes the claim far cleaner.
A door-knocker says my roof is totaled. Are they right?
Maybe. Storms do total roofs. But out-of-town crews flood Indiana after every major hail event, write fast quotes, and are unreachable by the time the first shingle lifts. Take their card, then get a second opinion from a company with a local address and a warranty that will still have a phone number behind it in five years. If the damage is real, we'll document it; if it isn't, we'll tell you that too.
What does a storm damage inspection cost?
Nothing. Every Checkered Flag inspection is free, photographed, and reviewed with you, storm or no storm. If the roof is fine, you get peace of mind and a baseline record that makes any future claim easier to prove.
