The Record

What the NWS Data Shows

A derecho tracked across Indiana during late afternoon rush hour (4:00-6:00 PM), with sustained winds of 60-70 mph and gusts to 80 mph across the metro.

Power outages affected over 200,000 customers, with some areas without power for 5-7 days during hot summer weather.

Tree damage was catastrophic, with entire neighborhoods losing mature trees. Falling trees caused many of the roof failures beyond direct wind damage.

Counties under warnings: Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Boone, Johnson, Hancock. See live reports on the storm map.

What to Check, and What to Watch Out For

If you experienced this storm and haven't addressed roof damage, problems are likely worsening. Wind damage exposes underlayment that degrades in sun/rain.

Many homeowners from this storm experienced leaks 6-12 months later as wind-lifted shingles slowly failed. Late documentation is harder but still possible.

Insurance claims filed over a year after the storm face higher scrutiny. Professional inspection with clear causation documentation is essential.
